A "tsun hoi" (攢盒) is a traditional container used in Hong Kong to hold snacks and sweets eaten during Chinese New Year celebrations. Currently, "tsun" (攢) is often replaced by "chuen" (全), which has the same pronunciation, so it is also called "chuen hoi" (全盒). "Chuen hoi" signifies "perfect and beautiful" (十全十美).
On the first (初一) and second (初二) days of the Lunar New Year, people wake up early, put on their best clothes, and visit relatives and friends. They exchange New Year's greetings, wishing each other a good year. In Hong Kong, this is called "bai nian" (拜年). At this time, the "chuen hoi" is placed in the center of the table.
It's fun to spin the "chuen hoi" and choose sweets, which enhances the New Year's atmosphere!
Like Japan's Osechi, the "chuen hoi" is a lucky charm. It contains many auspicious sweets and foods.
